Shopify 3D product configurator
Let Shopify customers configure the product—not guess the variant.
Configurix connects rule-driven product choices, real-time 3D, saved design identity and visual CPQ to a scoped Shopify cart, checkout or quote journey. Dimensions, components, price context and the accepted revision stay connected beyond the product page.

Integration patterns
Four valid Shopify journeys. One configuration should remain authoritative.
The correct implementation depends on whether the buyer can purchase immediately, requires a quote, or moves between both paths. The interface can change; the accepted configuration identity should not.
Theme-embedded configurator
The 3D configurator appears inside or beside the Shopify product experience. A valid configuration is saved before an eligible Shopify variant, quantity and agreed line properties are added through a scoped storefront integration.
Best when checkout can continue with a known merchandise variant and a stable configuration reference.
Headless Shopify storefront
A custom storefront presents product content, guided configuration and real-time 3D while Shopify remains the commerce layer. The integration maps the accepted configuration to the cart operations and customer journey supported by the chosen Storefront API architecture.
Best when UX, localization or account workflows need more control than a standard theme surface.
Configure and request a quote
The buyer configures the exact product and submits a complete project rather than forcing an unsuitable item into checkout. Sales receives dimensions, options, visual snapshot, price context and the saved configuration ID for review and a branded proposal.
Best for surveyed, installed, engineered or approval-dependent products.
Mixed buy-or-quote journey
Standard configurations proceed to cart while exceptional dimensions, unavailable markets, installation requests or approval thresholds switch to consultation or quote. The reason for the branch is controlled by product and commercial rules.
Best for catalogs that combine repeatable ecommerce products with made-to-measure projects.
Source of truth
Decide which system owns each answer.
A reliable integration does not duplicate every responsibility. It assigns product merchandising, technical validity, visualization, pricing, cart, project and order state to explicit authorities.

Configuration validity
Configurix product model
Dimensions, dependencies, exclusions, required options and derived values
Interactive visualization
Configurix 3D bindings
Geometry, materials, visible components, camera and approved visual states
Customer-facing price
Agreed pricing owner
Catalog, market, account, quantity, tax, discounts, services and approval rules
Saved design identity
Configurix configuration service
Configuration ID, revision, selected values, snapshot and reopen policy
Cart and checkout
Shopify commerce workflow

Quote or project
Configurix workflow
Buyer, site data, configuration revision, commercial status, owner and documents
Order and operations
Agreed downstream system
Order mapping, fulfillment fields, ERP reference and optional production handoff
Durable handoff
The cart needs a reference—not the whole product model.
A concise Shopify line can point to a richer server-side record. Stable IDs and explicit revisions let customer support, quotes, orders and operations reopen the same accepted configuration.
shop_product_idThe Shopify product mapped to the configurable product family
shop_variant_idThe eligible merchandise variant used by the chosen cart or checkout pattern
configuration_idStable server-side identity for the accepted Configurix design
configuration_revisionImmutable or explicitly versioned state used when cart, quote or order was created
configuration_summaryPermitted human-readable dimensions, finish and key selections for cart and operations
price_contextMarket, currency, customer or dealer tier, tax posture and calculation version
visual_referenceApproved thumbnail or snapshot associated with the same configuration revision
reopen_urlControlled link that restores the saved design subject to identity and catalog-version policy
workflow_modeBuy, quote, consultation, review or another explicitly supported journey
integration_versionContract version used to interpret properties, events and downstream mappings
Implementation blueprint
Connect configuration and commerce in eight controlled stages.
Start with the customer decision and product model. The Shopify endpoint is only one part of the system; persistence, pricing, revision policy and operational handoff determine whether the integration remains reliable.
Define
Choose the Shopify customer journey
Decide which products buy online, which require a quote and which can do both. State the commercial and technical rule that selects each path.
Model
Create the governed product system
Map dimensions, components, options, dependencies, exclusions, defaults, derived values and review thresholds independently from the storefront UI.
Bind
Connect configuration to real-time 3D
Link accepted fields to geometry, materials, visibility and camera behavior. Test representative minimum, maximum and accessory states.
Own price
Set the price authority
Document whether Shopify, Configurix or another commercial service owns each amount and how markets, discounts, taxes, services and rounding reconcile.
Persist
Save the design before handoff
Create a stable configuration ID and revision so the cart line, quote, order, customer support and operations all refer to the same accepted product.
Integrate
Map to the chosen Shopify surface
Implement the approved theme, Ajax Cart, Storefront API or app-extension pattern with explicit identifier, property, error and security behavior.
Verify
Run end-to-end acceptance cases
Test product validity, prices, markets, carts, duplicate lines, quote branches, reopening, updates, mobile use, accessibility and downstream records.
Operate
Version and observe the contract
Monitor errors and mismatches, preserve historical configurations and test catalog, pricing, theme or API changes before release.
Acceptance evidence
Test what happens after the attractive 3D view.
The critical evidence is whether valid and invalid configurations, prices, cart lines, saved designs, quote branches and downstream records remain consistent under real customer behavior.
Valid add to cart
Known product, eligible variant and valid configuration
Cart contains the intended merchandise, quantity and durable configuration reference.
Invalid design
A dimension or combination rejected by product rules
The integration does not create a purchasable line and shows a useful correction path.
Price reconciliation
A known configuration in each active market and currency
Displayed total, cart behavior, discounts and recorded commercial context follow the agreed owner.
Duplicate lines
Same variant with different saved configurations
Distinct configured products remain distinguishable and reopen to the correct revision.
Reopen after catalog change
Saved configuration created before a rule or component update
Policy preserves history and explains whether revalidation or migration is required.
Quote branch
Installation, engineering review or commercial threshold is triggered
Buyer data and complete configuration reach the quote workflow without a misleading checkout path.
Failure and retry
Cart, network or integration endpoint temporarily fails
The design remains saved, retry is idempotent and the buyer receives a recoverable state.
Mobile and accessibility
Keyboard, touch, reduced motion and constrained viewport use
Core choices, validation, price and action remain operable without relying only on the 3D canvas.
Configurix + Shopify
A governed product core behind the storefront experience.
Configurix models configurable physical products, validates choices, controls real-time 3D and preserves a structured design for pricing, quotes and downstream use. Shopify can remain the commerce surface where that is the right customer journey.
Theme behavior, Storefront APIs, price authority, cart mapping, checkout, markets, order data and operational outputs are confirmed against the working Shopify store and agreed scope.
